The New Church teaches the Bible based on insights from the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg, an eighteenth century theologian and scientist. This theology is founded on the belief that the Lord used Swedenborg as a humble servant who shared God's teachings to people on earth. Over many years of dedicated study and inspiration, Swedenborg wrote thirty-five volumes of theological books, commonly referred to as the Writings or Heavenly Doctrine. They provide fresh and rational answers for questions about human life which had previously been unanswered. They shine light on our spiritual paths to enable us to see our way toward our heavenly homes.
We care about what Swedenborg wrote because it reveals so much inner meaning in the Bible, uncovering new relevance and hope for our spiritual journey in this world. Within the volumes of theology are wonderful explanations of the nature of the Divine and the Lord's relationship with us, the function of creation, and the life which awaits us after death. He also provides practical guidelines for bringing spirituality and religion into everyday life.
